Make your own Thread Nets

So recently I bought 63 spools of Embroidery Thread from Designs By Sick.  These are mini King Spools.   It's great, but I need to transport the thread - so was looking around for a deal on Thread Nets.  I found some for sale in long strips so you can cut your own, but some of them had reviews of being too loose.  My main problem is that I need to transport them next weekend so don't necessarily have time for an order to reach me.

I got to thinking that I probably have something hanging around that I could make my own.

I did - some old panty hose that I am not going to use.

Step 1: 2 lines of stitching down the middle.

If you have a STRETCH STITCH - use that and you can skip Step 3.

Step 2: cut carefully between the stitching lines

Step 3: because I'm lazy and don't want to sew each one separately and backstitch each one - I just used some fray check each place I planned to cut to hold the stitches in place.  Time will tell if this is good enough or if you have used STRETCH STITCH then you should be able to skip this step.

Step 4: Cut apart into separate thread nets.

Voila!

I didn't need very long thread nets so I got 14 - 15 nets from each strip - 28 - 30 from each leg so that means close to 60 from a pair (assuming no runs).

String Art Alphabet - Randomized - Complete

I've completed the Randomized version of the Alphabet.

Some of the pictures are a little blurry,  I may fix them in the daylight, but right now I just want to get these up on the web.

NOTE: The I isn't pictured - as it is just the first half of the H

This alphabet is no longer free - you can find it for sale on my Craftsy site.

Throwback Thursday - Flower Fairy Machine Embroidery Design

This Flower Fairy was designed back in 1998 for a Spark/Pathfinder camp.

I didn't stitch out the final outline - but it is included in the embroidery design file.  I just found with the software I was using at the time that if I kept the outline in the design it worked better for defining the other parts - I never intended to stitch the outline.

I have included only the .PES file.  It fits in the 4 x 4" hoop

Please read the copyright info in the download.

String Art - A - Test Run - Update

I'm trying to decide if I should spend time digitizing an entire alphabet in the String Art Style.

Below are two different styles - random and more organized.

Random (with Running Stitch outline or ZigZag)

Organized (with Running Stitch outline or ZigZag)

The results of the survey from Most popular to least

1) Randomized Lines with ZigZag outline

Tie
2) Randomized Lines with Running stitch outline
2) Organized Lines with ZigZag outline

4) Organized Lines with Running stitch outline

So I'm starting with the more Randomized lines.  I'll do both the running and zigzag outlines - because releasing both doesn't really take too much extra time.

If I get good feedback, then I'll consider doing a more organized version.

Also, did you notice that by doing the outline only - this becomes a Stencil Font?  Perhaps I should do an appliqué version of the Stencil part only.  Any thoughts?

String Art Flower - Machine Embroidery in .PES

I decided to attempt to share this design with you.

Please read the copyright info in the zip file.  (It's standard - you can use for personal or items for sale, but you can't share or sell the design itself)

I have only included the .PES version. This fits in the 4" x 4" hoop

String art - machine embroidery style

So for some reason I decided to channel my inner 70s girl and try digitizing some string art patterns into machine embroidery.   I also figur d this might be a good test for some embroidery software I want to evaluate.

So here are the results using my very old (1990s) software.   Not too bad

Pooh Bear X-Stitch Font

Recently I had some computer issues which caused me to move/reorganize my old Embroidery Files. I found that I had this Pooh Bear X-Stitch Font.   I decided to use it to stitch my name on a bag, but soon found out that I would have too many Pooh Bears since most of the letters use Pooh.

I downloaded StitchBuddy and made some changes.

Here is the original Piglet with C and Pooh with M

and the resulting mashup of them

Here are the original Eeyore with E and Pooh with A

And the resulting mash up (There was a little bit of a problem stitching out some of the final black outline of Eeyore, but you can only tell if you look closely so I decided to just leave it
